RTI Executive Team (OpenInsight Specific)

Just read the document/letter put up by K.Baker.
I was intrigued that the Exec. Team now also consists of M.Ruanne and
P. McNerthney. Don't mean to disrespect anyone's abilities here, I am sure both these guys are experts at what they do but as far as I know,Mr.McNerthney is a C/C++ guy who developed the NLMs and M. Ruanne happens to be a pro at BASIC+/AREV.
How will they help in JREV/CDC which is pure JAVA…or will they??
Just wondering, what RTI's views are on bringing in 'actual' JAVA developers……..?

Alex,
I can't comment on Pat's Java abilities, but I've been told they are good. However, since Pat did write the NT Service, NLM, and some AREV bonds we know that he is imminently qualified to get almost anything to talk with linear hash.

There isn't much that Pat McNerthney cannot do in terms of programming. I haven't ever seen Mike Ruane's code. What is
important is their ability to look after the development
so it is consistent with the AREV/OI philosophy. The choice
of development tool (Java C++ Basic+ etc.) is academic, really.
Frankly, I am excited by the prospect of Pat McNerthney being involved.

Jim,
Needless to say with all the commotion going on at RevSoft, it's a bit unsettling. Especially as we are in the process of converting our AREV app to OI with an eye towards Jrev. All along we were told by RTI that the smart tactic was to convert to OI so that our conversion to Jrev would be easier. When I asked should I wait for Jrev and skip OI, I was told "no" that Jrev was still "months away" and that tools would be made available to convert from OI to Jrev. I believed in what I was told. Here I am in the process of moving to OI and now the key principle Jrev/OI developers have left RTI.
"What in tarnation is going on?", my grandma would have said. Should I and other developers stay with OI? Is there a logical migration path to Jrev? Will my investment in OI be a mistake? Do we and others need to start investigating other options?
Personally, I hope not. I was excited about Jrev and still am, but again "what in tarnation is going on?" If Jrev is dead, would RevSoft consider doing a 32-bit OI?
At one time, I remarked on this forum "long live Jrev" and it was the subject of conversation at last year RevU. Is this still applicable?

Hi Ray, we posted a status on the LiveWater/jRev efforts in the News and Info section of this site. If you have minute, take a look and give me a call at 978-247-7101. I'd be happy to go over it as well as any other issues, thanks Jim

I believe that Pat and Mike do have the credentials to continue the JRev development. Like Ray Chan, I too was convinced to go to OI and then to JRev because "JRev was not ready." I would have preferred to skip OI altogether.
My concern is that if Mike is handling Customer Support, he will not have time to work on JRev. I will be swamped with busy work helping the customers with everyday problems. Jim, please respond to this in the open forum.

What's needed is an on-line conference which would have been possible on CompuServe.
There are hundreds of alternatives on the Internet but I'll be d* if I'll put NetMeeting on my system. The less Microsoft programs I have installed the happier my system is.

Hi CT, I am assembling a team that brings together all the skills necessary to succesfully commercialize LiveWater/jRev - technology, documentation, training, implementation and migration. So here is my thinking regarding our organization-
A dedicated field service organization doing hands-on work implementing web apps with OI, migrations from Arev and new implementations will enable us to obtain reliable feedback on the best approaches to migration/compatibility and implementation when jRev arrives. This is WinWin's role.
The development team will focus on tools, technologies and their use in implementing component-based apps - that is our dev team's role.
Documenting, communicating, packaging and presenting the product concisely and effectively are the responsibilities of our business development team.
If you would like to discuss the contributions and capabilities of any of the members of our team - as always - I am available at 978-247-7101, thanks Jim
