I've written a routine that allows the user to "customise" the columns in an edit table, including adding and deleting columns, and changing the width. This customisation has to be preserved between session for each user. So I gather the edittable detals using send_message with COLLABEL, COLWIDTH, COLSTYLE and COLCHARS. I then write this info away. It writing correctly. The when the user comes back in to the window with the edit table in it, I read the info, then use send_message to re-construct the table as the user left it. All good, with one exception. The WIDTH of all the columns is DOUBLED when the edittable columns are constructed. Dividing the WIDTH number that is read in by 2 fixes this, but - why does it happen. What am I missing?

Jonathan,

You are missing nothing. It has been that way since the beginning. Odd isn't it! I heard that it has to do with "dialog units".

A little humor… it just goes to prove that 2 does equal 1. Here is more proof…

1) let A equal B…

A=B

2) Now add A to both sides…

A + A=A + B
      or
2A=A + B

3) Subtract 2B from both sides…

2A - 2B=A + B - 2B
       or
2(A - B)=A - B

4) Divide both sides by "A - B"…

(2(A - B)) / (A - B)=(A - B) / (A - B)
                    or
2(A - B)     A - B
  1. ——- = —–
  A - B      A - B
        or
2=1

Actually, I was adding to it. With my post, we can now conclude that

2=1=0.

Actually, with appropriate parentheses added, this is true.
