I've started getting this messages recently on my test workstations (Win98, WinNt, and Win2000). OI is running on a Windows NT Server. At the workstation, when OI is "clicked", I see the Rev logon banner, then I see a System Error message:

"Cannot read from drive E:"

After the above message disappears, I see this Open Enginemessage:

Open media failed on the following volume(s). E:\SYMMETRY\SYMDATA\SYMMETRY Tables in the volume(s) will not be available…

I eventually get into OI and I can access the data tables under the volume in question. However, the message is annoying and I don't know what's causing this.

Does anyone any suggestion. I've checked the Security setting under the folder and they appear to be okay to me.

Any wild guess are okay! Thanks.

This will be posted on the otherside as well.

Ray ..

I've seen this when a workstation accidentally maps a network drive to the same drive letter as a CD-ROM and then re-maps it correctly to the proper drive-letter (F: or something like that). Sometimes the original drive mapping hangs around. The usual way around it is to stick a CD into drive E: and access it. This usually removes the bogus drive mapping.
