We are trying to install the 2.1 upgrade to the W2K Service for our Arev 3.12. Carefully following instructions in the upgrade manual, we carry out the AREV install/x process. We then try to run the AREV lanpack process, but AREV falls over with boot media map stuff. Looking at the AREV directory we have LH2.000 but no LH2.OVL. So we copy LH2.OVL from the upgrade disk. We can then continue with the AREV lanpack process and select NPP 2.1. Start the service etc and all works fine (setting REVPARAM etc). Now we want to run in TCP/IP only mode. Stop the service, edit REVPARAM to set ServerOnly=False. Run AREV Lanpack and choose ALL-NETWORKS-THUNK. Save and exit. Run AREV Lanpack again, it has not saved the new network driver (ie it still says ALL NETWORKS). Start the service, edit REVPARAM for ServerOnly=True and TcpIpPort=777 and AREV then gives FS1019.

We have tried all of this several times, carrying out upgrade instructions to the letter. Why does the LH2.OVL fail to get copied over? Why does AREV fail to register ALL-NETWORKS-THUNK?

We managed to get our OI stuff running fine.

The reason we stop the service and edit REVPARAM for each install is because that is the only way we can get it running initially (both OI and AREV)

Can anyone help us with this? We are running bog standard NT.

I had a similar problem under WinNT 4.0 where the REVBOOT file was not getting updated.

It turned out that there was not enough conventional memory allocated to the DOS session for the 'bump' process to complete properly (lack of string space).

Either tweak the _default.pif, create a pif for AREV.EXE or command.com that allocates 640KB of conventional memory and 4096KB of EMS.

You may have to trying running AREV.EXE with various combinations of /x and /m

Check also to see that the REVBOOT file is not marked read-only and you have full access rights to the AREV directory.
