I have problems with a Workstation dedicated to indexes, this after some hours stops to process the indexes, if I leave and I run Arev this continues with the process of indexes. The server is NT 4.0 service pack 5, the indexstations with Win98 with TCP/IP, no screensavers.

Have you turned Power Management OFF both at work-station startup

Yes, power management is OFF in workstation setup and Win98, no screensavers, any other program doesn't run in the station, only Arev 3.12, all networks driver.

I proved installing the station of indexes with several Workstation and I obtain the same result, after some hours stops to operate the system of indexes, I can enter to the TCL or to move for the menus but it doesn't reestablish the service of indexes. I need exit and Run Arev again

The problem with the background indexing ocurrs only sporadically but at least twice a day.

The dedicated index workstation is the only machine engaged in indexing.

We tried using different machines as index workstation, but with the same results. I experience the same problem on different sites. On o

Up to now I have found out only 2 patches:

Patch 1: On the dedicated index workstation - log off and on again; this lasts several hours.

Patch 2: Enable indexing on all workstations, disabling the dedicated indexer. Apparently no problem ocurrs with background indexing.

Although either of the above options works I am not able to give a proper explanation to the operating personell.

I have encountered a similar problem when controlling an indexer on Windows 95 remotely using pcAnywhere. For some reason, indexing would cease. The problem was resolved by changing the mouse to exlusive. This is done by checking Exclusive Mode in the Mouse box of the Miscellaneous tab of your shortcut for Arev.

@Index.time=5

@bckgrnd.time=30

Last news.

Install a subroutine in the post-index, this sends me a message with the hour (option ' UB') and each 5 post-index puts the value @data=char(21), it has 2 days working and it has not stopped the process again.

Although the patch works, I cannot give an appropriate explanation to the operative personnel.
