Has anything changed in the playing field "Win2k on novell 3.x,4.x with Arev3.12 using NLM 1.5. Or should we just stay with the good performance we have with Win95. Not that we can !!!!
Thanks

Have you looked at the documentation / fix for slowness of Win2000 / Client 4.8 shell cover all variants of 4.8 including 4.83. See
http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/2961598.htm
In a Novell 5.x environment my preliminary tests on Win2000 w/s suggested that speed was up with that of win98 + Client32 v3.3. However there have been conflicting reports of the VIPX fix working / not making any difference. The factors stopping the fix from realising full performance gain have not yet been identified.

Hi Richard, I did go through novell website and also have the april version of the vipx but on netware 3.12 it still takes a long time. Logging into the application takes 5-8 seconds on 95 whereas close to 40 seconds on the win2k box ver 4.83. A report that takes 20 mins currently runs for almost 2 hrs. The vipx has not really helped here. What are the changes if any that I could consider making to the config.nt file and the pif settings. Appreciate suggestions
Thanks

I believe RevSoft are trying to gather information on the VIPX patch. But to be fair to them there is a large number of combinations and permutations of Client environment. I reported on a Novell 5.x + NLM 5.0 netware system with Win2000 + Client 4.83. This is way different from your novell 3.x which is long since marked out as end-of-line.
I am sure everyone would like to nail the factor(s) that cause performance degradation - some are known like priority of IPX on protocol stack, frame type etc - but must be millions of other issues.
Best of luck.
