Okay everyone, now I'm having problems with one Windows 95 machine.

We have a time clock application that is running stand-alone (non-networked) on multiple Windows 95 machines. Each machine has their own copy (not efficient, but I didn't set it up). AREV version 3.12, btw.

The application used to work wonderfully on this machine, but now they cannot log in.

When they double click on the icon, AREV starts and the splash screen comes up. It finishes initializing, and goes to the blue screen. As soon as the blue screen comes up, a black line appears across the bottom of the screen. It's what we call a shell error around here, but I don't know what it is. Any key stroke causes the screen to scroll up, with the black line getting bigger and bigger.

This only happens under Windows. If I reboot the machine in DOS mode, the app runs beautifully. However, that is not an acceptable solution.

Again, this app runs perfectly on all other machines. I've checked the PIF settings, and as far as I know they are all correct. They are the same as on every other machine.

If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Matt Sorrell

In your shortcut, check the memory settings for "Expanded Memory". It should be 4096. I am assuming that all the other settings are ok as you have stand alone applications are are not on the network or using the NLMs.

Check your networked resources. I'll bet you have something like a network printer or network drive that Windows is trying to map to but is not available. Meanwhile, when you log on to Arev, it is either polling "known" servers or trying to connect to "known" printers. In the background you are getting an Abort, Retry, Fail message, but it does not appear. Try pressing the F key. You may have to do this a couple of times, but you should eventually get in this way.

The permanent solution is to identify the resource that is causing the problem and remove it from your Windows environment. I had this problem and I think it was a network printer.

This is somewhat speculative, so I'd appreciate feedback if this helps to resolve the problem.

Victor's "Fail,Fail" seems like the best bet. We used to get this a lot when we had share loaded for some reason!

Does Arev work in 98?

I been able to run arev in 95/NT/WIN3.1 without any problem,

but can't seem to get AREV to work under 98.

= Arev3.03

= Revelation NLM (Netware 4.11)
