Combo box problem (OpenInsight 32-bit Specific)

Then I key in the new value Dog, whereby Dog food is selected and the new value is lost. The problem occurs when the new value is equal to the beginning of an old value.

After investigating further with my drop down combo box I find the result depends on if the list is dropped down while the new, shorter value Dog is keyed in. If the list is down Dog food is selected and replaces Dog as soon as one leaves the combo. If the list is not down the new value Dog stays. (Unfortunately I'd like to start my combo with the list down.)
Could anybody tell me if this is standard Windows combo behaviour?
Have anybody else encountered this as a problem?
