The export function requires that a template/module be defined for each export.

To access the export setup quickly press the F5 key to get to the command prompt (provided this is not disabled for the user login in question). At the colon (:) prompt type

RUNMENU EXPORT <code>

Pick DBase III from the menu.

Define the template/module filling in process name, etc. The full path can be specified for the DBase file (e.g. C:\DBase\Exports\AP.DBF). Note that since ARev is a DOS program paths and file names are limited to the 8.3 conventions.

Fill in the field names from the dictionary of the ARev file to be exported, making sure to fill in the correct type and length of each field. WARNING: If you export a field as a MEMO field be sure to set the length to 10. The place marker in the DBF file for memo fields is 10 bytes, however some versions of the export utility set this to what ever is entered in the template and thus create an invalid DBF file.

Press F9 to save the template. You should then be asked if you want to run the export.

To run the export at any time after it has been defined: 1. Select (filter) the records you want to export 2. At the command prompt type the command:"EXPORT DB3 templatename" example: EXPORT DB3 APFILE

Note the following: DBaseIII+ files have severe limitations: the dictionary of the DBF file is limited by total size and/or number of entries. Fields are fixed length (except MEMO fields) and largest non-memo field is 256 bytes. I don't recall the limit on memo fields. Multivalued fields will be exported as one string containing any delimiters (value marks typically).

Also due to the way the export utility is written, there is a limitation on the number of fields that can be exported at one time. This varies depending on a number of factors but is related to the program execution stack in ARev.
