We are running Arev 2.12 on NT4.0, TCP/IP, NT Service Pack. We have a dedicated indexer that seems to get this randomly at night when no one is on. I thought the problem was related to some sort of NT locking conflict however, the indexer seems to be the only machine on-line.

Does anyone have any clue as to what might be going on here?

See if you can correlate the timing with backups. I'll bet you're running into some sort of conflict with the backup software.

I had never seen this before recently moving to our NT Server and ARev NT Service Pack.
