In TB#109, conditional compilation is explained.

I have several pieces of code that now use conditional compilation flawlessly.

The TB goes on to say:

"The DEFINE directive is currently supported only in the source code. A future release of Advanced Revelation will allow you to set your DEFINEs from the command line by using the COMPILE command."

Unfortunately, I cannot find any documentation on how to set DEFINEs using the COMPILEBASIC command (I don't have a COMPILE command).

I'm running AREV 3.12.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

COMPILE, BASIC, and COMPILEBASIC should all be the same verb, just different names depending on the version or upgrade history.

The voc entry should be

1:VERB2

2:

3:SYSOBJ

4:V15

If you have a RUNTIME version of ARev there will be no compiler.

Warren,

I've got COMPILEBASIC. It runs just fine. I just can't figure out how to pass DEFINEs to the compiler from the TCL so that I don't have to edit my source code in order to take advantage of conditional compilation.

Perhaps that feature was vaporware?

Sorry, I misunderstood your post.

However you quote the TB as saying: "A future release of Advanced Revelation will allow you…"

Odds are it is still waiting to be included in a future release. Arev 4.0x perhaps. Hold your breath as long as some of us have been holding it for Rev H.

Take heart though, Corel released an updated Wordperfect for DOS a couple of years ago, version 6.x I believe.

I'll vote for vaporware. If I recall the TB came out around the time RTI moved from WA to CT and they lost a few key developers in the move.
