OpenInsight Demo on YouTube (OpenInsight 32-bit Specific)

All-
We've uploaded a test video at youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fsh6gJANshE
We'd like you opinion on it- we realize that the fonts are a bit fuzzy and we're trying to see what else we can do about it, but what we're really interested in is:
1. Should we make more of these?
2. Does the idea of posting these types of videos on YouTube make sense?
3. If the above are true, what topics should we cover, given a 10-minute limit on a video.
Thanks-
Revelation Software

Very nice. Sound is very clear. I'm not sure you'll be able to get the screen shots to look better. We had similar problems with our YouTube entry.

Yes.

Yes.
3. If the above are true, what topics should we cover, given a 10-minute limit on a video
- Creating context menus
- Using the new Promoted Events feature in 8.0
- Best practices for creating RDKs
I'll come up with more later, if others don't beat me to it.

RTI,
I think the potential of YouTube is awesome.
Here's something I put together for fun (at least for me). For those who haven't seen me in a long time you'll know why. For those who don't know me, well here's a 2minute introduction.
Well back to my busy life .
Keep up the good work,

I am absolutely not interested in going to a web site like YouTube and allowing their web site to run a Windows media player item on my computer. I am not interested in opening up or risking any type of "attack" on my computer.
I trust Revelation. I do not trust YouTube. The Video Demo is a great idea. Using Youtube… I do not consider wise.

Perhaps I am ignorant of the technical details, but I thought YouTube videos were delivered as Flash movies.

I must disagree with Richard's assessment of YouTube security. First of all, the videos are not Windows Media Player. They are Flash. Secondly, true videos will not compromise a computer.
The only case I've seen is where users upload fake videos, which are actually Trojans. However, there are couple reasons not be unduly paranoid by these kinds of attacks. First, these videos are usually caught quite quickly by the YouTube staffers. You'd have to be looking at dozens of brand new videos daily to hit one of these. Secondly, Revelation will be providing direct links. Surely, Revelation will not be posting Trojans posing as an OI instructional video. Odds are, fake videos will pose as something appealing to mass audiences (i.e., Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan…)
I think YouTube is a great way for Revelation to promote their products and educate their users and very little cost to Revelation and, most importantly, their community.

Wouldn't it be better to serve this up through the RTI site? Another option on the support menu to the left.
Introductions to OI, JOI and OIL are find for YouTube if you want to get some info out that way but I would suggest the really RTI vids be from RTI.
Just seems more professional. Not sure that IBM does their training on YouTube (though i could be wrong with that)

Dave- (and others)
We'd put links to the YouTube videos from a page here on our website. They'd be a link.
IBM does not use youtube (yet), but they are really pushing to make headway in Digg, and podcasts.

Intuit has had "how to" videos as part of their helps for ages on disk. Something to consider for the Works disk and you can have better resolution.

Agreed. We make an avi file for each one of these videos, and we will release them on the Works CD.

Yes - because something is needed. And No. As I recall Mike Riand has the calls to use wmplayer.exe with wmv files. We knocked them up during his visit to Sydney. The wmv files could be part of the product help system.
Where you have the option to externalize or internalize product help / tutorials, internalize makes sense every time. Then you can update a feature's appearance and rework the help file to go with it. You can also position the help so that it doesn't superimpose over the screen locations the user needs to see.

Mike, with all due respects, and no antagonism inteded, I don't understand this thinking.
The development user interface is sometimes confusing, so you release instructional videos to overcome this, but effectively at a cost overhead (Works subscription) for new users.
So you are effectively charging new users for the privilege of accepting the limitations in the development user interface.
It might be more successful if you charge new developers for a "wizard pack" which effectively takes them through the steps / best sequence.
Or else put wmv's in a help system retrofit and call it "hyperhelp"
