OI16/OI40/Arev Networking Questions (OpenInsight 16-Bit Specific)

Hello,
I have been searching the web site's knowledge base and online discussions for information regarding network setups for OI and Arev.
I have come across a clients site that was/is using ARev and OI 16
on Novell Server Version 5.1 sp3 ; Clients 3.3 for Win 98.
This setup has been working but has had issues with caching, file locks, etc. causing real and 'phantom' GFE's.
The current drivers are IPX/Multi-user version 1.5a for both OI16 and ARev. (Until Fri. were using LH NLM 5.0)
Upon some digging, I discovered they are using Ethernet frame type 802.3 . It has been my understanding for some time that 802.3 is NOT completely compliant and that 802.2 is the IEEE standard and the preferred type in this environment.
This was discovered after a discussion to upgrade the server to LH NLM 5.5 so that they can upgrade the workstations to Novell Clients 4.83 for Win 2k boxes.
So, we upgraded the server to LH NLM 5.5, network drivers to 1.5b and changed the bindings, once with 802.2 and once with 802.3. There were still less than satisfactory results using the win2k boxes.
Which leads to my first set of questions. Should they be on 802.2 only? What are the concerns when running win2k and OI and win2k and ARev? The concerns I know about from reading the manuals and posts etc. are (a) disable write behind cache (yes even applied the win2k patch so this doesn't get reset) (b) for arev set ems 4096, ext. none, files=200 © don't set workstation binding to auto.
What are we missing?
Aside from that… I have gotten a commitment to move to win2000 server and have purchased the Windows Server 2.1 from Rev. in hopes
of migrating in the next 6mos. with the idea of moving them to OI32.
But in the mean time… I am asking this community and RevTech if we can start a post here or get a knowledge base paper that outlines
what the proper configuration settings are for ….
If you are running Server Platform :A WorkStations :B Protocol :C
OI Version: D ARev Version: E then you should have
Memory settings: 1 Start up files: 2 OI driver:3 ARev driver: 3
Sort of a one stop shopping list. Some of the knowledge base articles seem outdated for some of the network products and the
market is moving what with people upgrading to Win2k, XP etc.
( Maybe there is something in the web site that I have overlooked, and if so I apologize for the lengthy post. If so, does anyone know the link? )
Thanks for reading this post I hope I am not totally out of line here.
