I have a customer who has a NT network and his workstations are Windows 98. They are running the NT service and the workstations have the NPP installed. The workstations are running very slow and sluggish. If we rebuild the indexes things seem to move along great.
What should I be looking for?
Thanks for all your help

After rebuilding, how long does it take for things to get sluggish? Could be a sizelock setting or something in the !files causing slow hasing during transactions.

We had the same problem at client site with a 5 workstations (Win 98) NT Server SP4. The number 1 problem was cheep NIC's. As soon as we replaced them all with 3COM NIC's most of the performance problems were solved. We also found a cable with bad connectors which caused random lockups. Finally, this client (against our recommendations) bought an AMD 450 for a server as well as all the workstations. Our tech thinks that there is some problem with AMD as a server and NT but does not know what it is. It may require special settings⦠not sure. Hope this helps. Let us know what you find.
