If you have a networked 7.2.1 system that has version 3.0.0.1 or below of the Universal Driver Linear Hash Service running on the Server with the Netdrv.exe set to version 3.0.0.3 of the Universal Driver then when you run a GFE Check from Database Manager our application falls into the debugger. To test whether it is our product at fault I have logged into the SYSPROG application and have again tried to run a GFE Check from Database Manager and it also falls into the debugger. The debug error is ENG0024: LH_Verify_Sub, Line 390, Divide by Zero; Result Zero.

If you have a networked 7.2.1 system that has version 3.0.0.2 of the Universal Driver Linear Hash Service running on the Server and the Netdrv.exe set to version 3.0.0.3 then it is possible to run a GFE check without going into debugger. However, we get spurious results on approximately 4-5 files each time saying that there are GFE's present, even when the said GFE's have previously been fixed. We believe, that there are no actual problems with the files and it is down to the way that the Universal Driver is reading the file information, which may related to the debugger problem I have stated in the previous paragraph and is an error with the Linear Hash service on the Server side.

NOTE that in both of the above situations if the application is run in a standalone environment off the network then no GFE's are reported.

Our customer base is now in the process of upgrading to version 7.2.1 of OpenInsight which means the Netdrv.exe file will be updated to version 3.0.0.3 as this is the only version offered for the Universal Driver. Therefore, we are potentially going to hit the above problems as our customers have differing versions of the Universal Driver Linear Hash services installed on the Server.

Anu suggestions would be useful.

Jon

Jon,

I suggest that you contact Kevin Ruane at Revelation to get an updated Universal Driver install. That is the early Universal Driver (file dates 15 Oct 2003)produce this result; there is a later build v 3.0.0.2 Feb 2004 I think that solves this. Also I would not over-wite the client-side engine if it is ] OIv 7.x.

Thanks for your reponse Richard.

Is this a known error with the GFE Checker somewhere that Universal Driver Server files less than version 3.0.0.2 will not work with 7.2.1 (which changes the Netdrv.exe to 3.0.0.3) ? If so has it been communicated anywhere if so I'd like to see any information you are aware of. We need to really liase through the UK office I have contacted them, as we need to agree the logistics of re-supplying these files to our customers.

We do have some customers who are on 3.0.0.2, has there only been one version of the 3.0.0.2 Server files ? When running GFE Checks on customer systems across a network we are getting strange results in that the same 4-5 files report GFEs, sometimes less, sometimes more, even when fixed errors are still being reported. As previously stated the errors are not reported on standalone systems so I don't think there are any actual GFEs resident, any ideas ?

Thanks

Jon

Richard has the right of it - your server version needs to be at 3.0.0.2. I have provided files to the UK office to help you in your redistribution. The 3.0.0.2 version fixed, among other things, the Verify. Still, it looks like there is a problem in your case.

There should be no problem using the UD 3.0.0.3 client with the 3.0.0.2.

I'll take another look to see if I can replicate what you are finding with the errors in what the Verify is finding.

Thanks Kevin for the prompt reply, I will contact the UK office tomorrow, we now obviously have to arrange supply of the version 3.0.0.2 files to our customer base.

I may have to give the UK office a copy of one of our systems in order for them to view the reported GFE problem, as it may be difficult to re-create.

Jon,

Two questions about when you look for (and find)GFEs:

Do they appear on system tables, or tables you created?

Do you run this from the Server itself, or from a workstation?

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin

Sorry for the slow response, the reported GFE's are on our own application tables not the system tables, it appears to be the same 3-4 files rough each time give or take the odd one or two. The files in question have been in existence in the system for a very long time and appear to function correctly without any issues propmting us to think there are no real GFE's present.

We have only tried running GFE checks from the Workstations so will try directly accesing Database Manager from the Server.

Thanks

Jon
