This is the first time I really try to use the reporter (together with the manual). (I don't know, why I am getting the same sensation I had, when using ARev for the first time…)

How do I …

… insert a System Variable (date, time, page) into a report?

I can call the popup with the variable name, but can't get it into the form. Neither ENTER nor double click will do it.

… align the field content vertically?

Although the field is defined in the report, the content doesn't show on the preview. Only the upper part of the XXX show in the designer and I can't find any option to align vertically.

General comment:

I did a search on reporter.exe and couldn't find too much activity on this forum. The Reporter Specific Forum seems to be very calm - almost no activity - that's the reason I am posting here.

Am I missing something?

Wilhelm

I think the world has moved on.

Reporter.exe, in the days of 16bit, worked great at times, but at other times proved er.. temperamental. Under 32bit the product seems much more stable but.. when you have had experiences from 16bit days of templates being trashed or the problem of report wont run because its blocked by an in-queue process.

OIPI stuff much faster and stable - just not nice gui interface. At least with OIPI, once it has been coded, it is finished and solid. Cost of re-doing Reporter properly with good error traps etc in 32bit versas who will pay leads to prospect of Reporter.exe quitely fading away into the sunset.

Re fading away into the sunset

That's a shame…. EW and the dreaded banded report writer in Arev were tools the "educated" end user could use. Sprezz's S/List admirably replaces EW, but there is nothing to replace the BRW if Reporter dies…. shame really….

We've essentially made a new Report Builder.

Lots of good, usable features.

Richard,

thanks for the hint, it helped me focus energies on development, again.

For the present we will stay with ORMAIN for bulk reports and OIPI for exceptions.

It seems, that the new reporter will include also the feel (not only the look) and flexibility of ARevs BRW. Sounds interesting.

Yes, good decision.

OIPI type hard coding reporting is going to get better as the tools become fully internalised into OI.

The NEW Report Builder will provide the ad hoc report generation of a standard (fonts etc) that clients expect for this kind of tool.

Great, and is that looking like it will be in version 7?

How (and where) could I configure OI's main menu, to launch ORMAIN instead of REPORTER.EXE, when clicking on the Reporter Icon?

Long time ago I beleive there was some documentation on how to changed / customise the icons etc. This happens if you set OI up in conjunction with Lotus Notes. Sprez may point you in the right direction.

However I would suggest that you just be patient and see what OI v7 has to offer (not that I have seen even a preview). All good things come to those that are deserving.

Wilhelm-

You can't configure the main menu, but you can change the side tool bar to show Report Builder instead of/in addition to Report designer by modifying the Oinsight.ini, as is noted in the white paper elsewhere on this site.

I believe report builder is number 7, 8, 9, or 10. I'm not at a machine with OI on it right now.

Thanks-

Mike

Richard,

it is not that I am more impatient about the arrival of OI7 than you might be ;-)

Just for the day to day use, I wanted to have a direct acces to the report builder (even in OI7).

Mike's posting about configuring the side bar icons in the main menu resolved this point completely.

Yep

The white paper was (possibly) what I had in mind - just couldnt recall where I had seen it.

Glad you got it sorted out.
