We are running Arev 3.12 applications on our Novell 3.12 network without any problems using NLM 1.5, 5-user LAN pack and Netware Client 32 v2.5.

Unfortunately, I now need to install a fundraising package that will require a move to Client 32 v3.1 or v3.3 in order to run. I've tried installing both clients with extremely poor success. But, I have been able to successfully test-run both programs using Microsoft's client with Win98SE and WinME. (However, I just wanted to see if they'd run, so I didn't do anything "creative.")

If it works, why is it recommended that Microsoft's client not be used in my environment? What are the dangers of running the Microsoft client instead of Novell's?

   Usually, the Microsoft client for Netware does not work in the environment that you are speaking of. Usually. In those cases you need to use the Novell client to access Arev or OI. I have seen a few instances where that does not hold true, where the Novell client does not work, but the Microsoft client does. I have not been able to see any problems in this situation (such as lack of record locking, or GFE's or anything lacking from the Novell client environment). 

  If it is working, then run with it. Perhaps from your attempts to get the Novell client working you installed the .dll's that will allow the Microsoft client to run succesfully. I know that Tony Marler has been able to 'make' the Microsoft client work by moving some .dll's, but I'm not sure your situation is the same.

If you do wish to use the Novell client, I can offer you a few suggestions to try, but I have seen situations where nothing I tried would get the Novell client to work when the Mircosoft client worked so easily.
