Attached tables detaching (AREV Specific)

Hi All,
I have a client who has a 4 user on a new Win 2000 Server network with Arev 3.1 and the NPP.
We've updated their hardware but they are still using Win'98 on the workstations.
When they start, they load the Apps folder then the Data folder. Of late we've found that one of the tables in the apps folder (usually the one with the reports in it) is no longer available and needs to be reattached. I'm guessing it's a network thing but it is happenning on all 4 PCs at different "Random" times.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Claude

Sounds like you have a dud hub or hardware somewhere in the mix. Or something exotic. I'd be ensuring none of the network cards are set to "Auto" mbit settings. Set them all to "10" and leave them there.
I'd tip Windows 98 as the problem. Change the Workstation software to Windows 2000 and your problem will most likely go away.
I'd also check the caching settings under Windows 98 (turn these off) and ensure it's Windows 98 second edition 98SE. There are registry settings which determine workstation timeouts on the server. You might like to investigate these further. Another way is to have a Windows process write back a dummy file to the server at regular intervals to prevent timeouts on the connection.
I've seen the disconnection behaviour you describe using RevG, NT servers and 98 Workstations.
I wonder - is the server brand spanking new, and the workstations are all older slower beasts?
And are you getting an Abort/Retry/Ignore message as the "random" error?

Hi Steve,
The Server is new, as is the 10/100MBit switch. Can I set the cards to 100 rather than 10 or is this one of the possible causes?
I did ask the techies to turn the caching off in Win98SE but who's to say they did.
A couple of the workstations are slow but two are 1.5 Celerons while the server is a P4 2.6
From memory the error received is simply "The Table has not been created or attached." But it did exist 5 minutes previously.
Thanks for getting back to me
