NOS is NetWare 4.11 running on a Compaq 5000 server with 512Mb memory and 21Mb of disk storage. Backup is via ARCserve 6.1 with Open File Manager. System and Archive volumes are at 65% full, but Program and Data volumes are at 93% full. There are about 80 clients, ranging from DOS 6.x to Windows 95, 98 and NT clients.
Several times over the last few months, and twice within the past week, the following sequence occurs:
The server console screen (and error log) records the following message between 8 and 9 AM when users and programmers are still loggin in:
"Warning! Server (servername) experienced a critical error. The offending process was suspended or recovered. However, services hosted by this server may have been affected."
At the same time, Compaq Insight Manager's critical error log shows an "Abnormal program termination" error with the message: "Abend: CPU hog detected by timer running process: REV. server 4"
About two hours later, CPU utilization is pegged at 100% and all processing grinds to a halt, including the server console. We have to cold-boot the server with all files open.
Help!!
