The arev 3.12 app that I have converted to arev32 used the arev secrity model of assigning a restriction level 1 - 9 to a user and giving windows a restriction level. It also has a subroutine that controlls access to programs by looking at @Privilege. In arev32 I am required to use OI User Management to add users. The 1-9 restriction level appears to be unsupported in OI. The User, Administrator, System Administrator Access Levels are not what I need. Does OI require that I develop Applications for each different level of user? Or am I missing something?

I don't believe this has changed.

Start OI into Application=SYSPROG. Start Arev32. RUNMENU STARTUP. Options / User / enter username / F10 / Advanced / enter the number into Security Level.

Note this is the Arev 3.12 security level numbers which I think changed from version 2.

Hi Dave,

You are right about the old users and the interface being there. My problem is that the system won't allow adding a new user there. I get a message "Please add new users with OpenInsight's database manager." The OI users don't get added to the old AREV users table and OI users don't have an @privilege value attached to them. Maybe I could emulate the old logon process as a secondary login. I'm looking for the name of the old Users table. Do you know offhand what it is?

I've located the ADD AREV32 User checkbox in OI Database Manager Environment settings. Maybe this is the key to getting the two to work together? I'll work with it and see what happens.

Yes, you check the Add Arev32 box in OI. Then use OI to setup a new user. The, you have to go to AREV32 in SYSPROG to complete the setup.

Going back into AREV32 sysprog usermanagement turns up another problem. My app name in OI is FD_INV. It was created by converting an arev 3.12 app named AFFINV to AREV32. The tables belong to the FD_INV app but AREV32 sysprog does not show FD_INV as an application in the user management window application popup. Choosing AFFINV from the popup continues to give the error about adding users in OI database manager. So I can't add the new user.

It seems I don't understand how to manage application names. Is there good documentation on how to get them right through app copies and conversions?

Don't know why you would change application names from ArevDOS to OI?

But, being tricky, why don't you create an OI application named AFFINV and see if that allows you to maintain the new USER records.

Some Questions re XORSYS conversion suggestions

1. Do all these apply to OI 9.0?

2. RE: "Copy your old application name to "SYSPROG" in SYSENV if it doesn't already exist." my SYSENV doesn't have a SYSPROG record (not visible in my FD_INV app anyway)

3. RE: "copy the old application name to the new application name in the SYSENV file or AREV won't see the new application." AREV does see and open the new application name 'FD_INV'. The only place it seems to be missing is in the Applications Popup when adding a user (after adding the user in OI database manager).

Dave, I know these are alot of questions but I feel I'm in pretty deep.
