I'm having trouble imagining your scenario. What are you copying from? A Windows app, a DOS app, somewhere else in Arev?
Does your text contain multiple lines?
Does the source information contain tab characters?
Are you doing an Arev paste or a Windows paste?
If your answer to the last question is Windows, and you are pasting multiple lines, some of which are indented, do the following:
From the screen you're pasting into, press CTRL-W. This presents a popup. Select the "Indent line" option to toggle the setting off. Now do your paste.
If this is not what you're running into, please provide more information.

I think his problem relates to the format of the discussion group messages and not a problem with whatever he's pasting into. Since the side bar was added, everything after the first line is indented to match that space taken up by the side bar. So, for example, if I cut and paste from your message, we'll end up with:

ARev gives you Ctrl-Z, but most other things require a boat load of deleting.

I wonder what would happen if you surrounded the text
with anti-tags to remove the pre-formatting.
I'm trying it with this message, in case you're wondering what I'm talking about.

Wonder if it's an effect of a specific browser as well? So, this is from Netscape…

I can't believe I never noticed that before. I wonder what would happen if you surrounded the text with anti-tags to remove the pre-formatting. I'm trying it with this message, in case you're wondering what I'm talking about.Big difference though. However, if I type something in the box here and decide to go back to the message I'm responding to or look at something else, IE 3 kills the text and gives me a new form. Netscape keeps my info. When all's said and done, I'd prefer to deal with the errant spaces than have to remember to cut and paste a long message or retype if I forget. Even this message, I forgot to put my name in the author field and when I went back, it trashed it, so I had to post it all over again.
As I always say, one man's bug is another man's feature.
Good thing HTML is a standard. Can you imagine what it would be like if these browsers were incompatable?

I don't know what I was thinking there. The PRE codes I was trying to undue were ones that I had put in. I had assumed the extra spaces were being coded by the message board software. However, it is Netscape's copy to the clipboard that's introducing the spaces. Sorry if I confused anyone.
That leaves another possibility, which, unlike CTRL-Z, will preserve any indents:
* Highlight a block of text, making sure to start at the end of the previous line rather than the beginning of the line you wish to copy. This is in order to make the first line line up with the rest.
* Paste into Arev.
* Block the text using CTRL-B
* Press SHIFT-F4 to move the text over.
