Has anyone tried to print to a Canon ir5000 copier/printer? I have a client who has bought one of these monsters and wants to redirect their printed output from the current OkiData 320, HP III, and Fujitsu 3200 to this new device.

It appears to support Post Script but when I gave this at try from one of the Windows 98 workstation after defining a PS Printer all it did was freeze the workstation even though I could print from Word with no apparent problems. It also supports PCL 5e and PJL which appears to be simply a job control language.

If anyone has been though this forest, any guidence would be most appreciated.

has no mention of this printer, so we presume there are

no driver updates available for it. Our only experience

with Canon copier/network printers is the GP215,

which requires a third-party (freeware) spooler and a patch to

the printer driver to behave as a network printer under WinNT 4.0

The IP address was set to be close to the existing server's, in all but the last octet. You'll need to define the port in the printer setup on the workstations.

The PCL 5 emulation on the IR 5000 is an HP one - you might try HP escape codes under windows for reasonable compatibility.

We use a Canon GPS 200+ here as our office network printer. We mostly use it im PCL 5 mode, but occasionally in post-script mode too. The Canon driver set for Win95 seem to work just fine. Did you receive a copy of NetSpot from Canon? If so, you can use that to check your network settings to configure the printer for IPX/SPX, TCP/IP, etc. It supports AppleTalk pretty well too in PostScript mode. HTH
