A typical Friday afternoon problem that wasn't so typical.

If users were in AREV there was no problem and they were able to use it as normal. But if someone tried to log in after a certain time, their machine would freeze. Extensive testing and searching found that a particular user, logging on in the normal manner, somehow managed to lock the AREVPID.DAT file. This file apparently allocates a session ID or some such, a unique number. If AREV can't access it, no one gets into AREV.

What we'd like to know is, why woul this have happened, is there a way to prevent it happening again, and is there a FAST method of finding this problem (took some very experienced programmers 3 hours to arrive at where the problem lay).

Have you checked the user's network time restrictions? Make sure the person's usage and time restrictions match.
