I have some users requesting the ability to send thier AREV 3.12 TCL reports to the printer in landscape mode. We are running under NOVELL 3.11. I seem to recall that was something that you could set as an option in the TCL LIST report line but it might just be a fussy memory from my time working with another PICK OS.

We use mostly HP Laser Jet printers. The only thing that I can think of is to have the user print the report to a file. Then they reconfigure the printer settings from the printers control panel and print the file to the printer. After they get thier hard copy, they would need to reset the printer. I'm not a big fan of this option.

In looking thru the manuals, I did run across the comand SETPRINTER. I checked on the Printer Enviorment settings to find printer 1 set to HP_LASERJET and printer 2 set to HP_LASERJET_LAND (which I assume to mean landscape plus I haven't found yet where these two printers are set). In doing a little experimenting, I couldn't get a report to print to landscape while printer 2 was selected.

The other alternative that I can see (but I'm not sure how to implement) is to have the user do a CAPTURE from TCL. I don't think I want them SUSPENDing to DOS to do the CAPTURE command and all the jirations that would entail. I'm not even sure I want them doing it from TCL, if they can. I'd like to keep it as simple and straight forward as possible.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

We always just send the escape sequences programatically - we write a program called Landscape and one called ResetPrinter. Then in a TCL batch program

LIST blah blah blah

ResetPrinter

The Novell Timeout needs to be set big enough that it doesn't reset the printer between jobs…
