We recently upgraded the server to Netware 4.11 and the NLM to 1.50. A strange behavior has developed, and we're at a loss to identify the cause.

When leaving for the day, the user clicks Start ] Shutdown ] Close All Programs… The workstation is left on, and the Netware Client 32 logon dialog waits for the next logon.

The next morning, the user logs on as usual. When they click the AREV shortcut, the get the message:

Linear Hash IPX Driver - REVMEDIA Open Error: FS472

Unable to open boot media map.

If they then click Start ] Shutdown ] Restart… everything works fine. Also, anyone who turns off the workstation at night and back on in the morning works okay. It is only the workstations that are left turned on but logged off the network that exhibit this error.

Would appreciate a steer toward a solution. Please note that everything works great except in this specific situation, so I'm assuming that workstation configurations and shortcut settings are proper. Have a feeling Novell may have the answer to this, but wondered if anyone out there has had the same problem and fixed it. Thanks!

If I understand you correctly, you must be loading the lhipxtsr.exe from somewhere other than the login script or your arev.bat file.

I have our lhipxtsr.exe loading in the login script for most computers but in windows 95 it is the batch file and loads when we initialize arev.

This setup should solve the problem.

Good Luck.

Robert:

We are loading the TSR as part of the WIN95 shortcut to AREV, which we've been doing for a long time now. We were using Win95 and Client 32 on Netware 3.12 with NLM 1.2; this problem started when we changed Netware to 4.11 and the NLM to 1.5.

I'm beginning to believe that Netware is doing something to these connections that is confusing or confounding the NLM; I don't think AREV or the NLM are the problem. Thanks for the input, though.

Jim,

Wow! Sounds like you are having some hair pulling days. If you could let me know when you find the problem I would greatly appreciate it. It is only a matter of time until I decide to upgrade Novell or go to NT.

Good Luck

Hi, I have just upgraded to Novell 4.11 and NLM 1.15 and had the same problem on two of our 15 computers. I changed the network card in both computers and the problem seems to have gone though only for one day so far.
