We wish to install our OI application on NT and Netware networks.

Can anyone suggest the best protocols (eg TCP, Netbui) for NT and/or Netware? Or the network cards which have proven effective?

Thanks

Christine,

for the NT network the best protocols would be TCP/IP, Netbui, and Named pipes. As for Novell, I would strongly recomend IPX/SPX.

And as far as network cards go we either recommend 3-Com or Intel.

Marina,

What are Named pipes?

For Netware use IPX for speed. Sell the client the Rev NLM for more profit. Oops I mean for increased data integrity.

For NT, the performance will be low. using NetBuei will be slightly faster then TCP, but is non routable. To get NT to be slightly faster use NT service from RTI. This is basically a bug fix of NT!

Christine,

The Named Pipes is a default protocol on clients running Win NT and

Win 95/98. It is one of the core protocols for Microsoft network has an ability to communicate directly with the SMB (server message block)

without overlaying of other protocols like Net beui or TCP/IP.

Depending on other network specs, using it could be a good option or not.

I hope this is helpful.
