Will be migrating to Novell 6 this weekend and will post issue on how to get an IPX connection without changing the protocol preference. If interested follow this thread next week (for success or failure I don't know yet).

The first thing that map does is to resolve the server being attached to an IP address. If it can resolve it then the connection to that server will be an IP connection. This will cause Arev to crash (lack of better terminology), unless the preferred protocol on the client is IPX.

There are many reasons why I did not want that option number 1 being having to visit or dial into a 100 machines, and the fact that everytime a desktop is touched all problems henceforth are attributed to you.

Therefore in the DNS table that associates a server to an IP address. The Arev server name was changed from "ASERVER" to "ASERVER_IP". This way when the batch file tries to map to "ASERVER" it cannot resolve the name to an IP address and will fall back and get an IPX connection.

Hope this helps.
