Has anyone out there interfaced OI with a
telephone voice response system…I.E. use
OI as the back end to retrieve data and return it
to the voice application?

The choice will be constrained by your IVR hardware and
software and what it will talk to. If possible select
TAPI-compliant devices.
Datalogic Modems (eg. a D4/H) will talk to a software
library product called Visual Voice which interfaces
to VB6. There are other products out there (Exceletel)
which use the Microsoft TAPI interface (although there
are differing levels of TAPI compliance among devices
and different TAPI versions from Microsoft). Some
modems will trap things like caller's phone number
too so check all the features first.
The ability to talk TAPI from 16 bit apps (like OI) is
not easy, given that TAPI is pretty much a 32 bit affair.
However, there are intricate ways to get OI to talk to
32 bit programs, and it may just be possible.
Some more info about your specific implementation would
be helpful to establish technical feasibility.
