I have a lot of problems on my system, such as not being able to add a column to a table. I thought I should do a sync. But in the Application Manager, the "Sync Database" and "Sync Stored Procedures" menu options are greyed out. Does this mean my system is beyond recovery? Is there a way to make these menu options available again? Or perhaps there is another way of running these procedures?

Cliff,

This means you are not logged in as a System Administrator. If possible you should change your user login's access level using the Database Manager -] Database -] User Management menu function. Otherwise, log in using the original System Administrator user (there must always be one…i.e. the one used to create the application in the first place.) We usually use the name of the application as the name of the System Administrator user, but it isn't necessary.

Thank you. I have been logging in using the name of the application, and I was able to make myself a System Administrator, and when I did this the menu options became available.

One thing I find odd is that no other users are listed in the Database Manager -] Database -] User Management screen. But if I try to run a SCAN_REP, it tells me that only JSMITH, the application's creator, has enough privileges to run a scan rep. Bummer.

Actually, I checked a backup copy of the application, and I was already a System Administrator. What I did was go into File / Application Properties / Create Permission, which I guess is not the same as making oneself a System Administrator.

Cliff,

Sorry about that. You are correct. One must minimally have Create permission in order to access those menu items. However, in order to assign someone Create permission it must be done from a login with System Administrator access. It's obviously best to have both available ;-)
