I've looked in the manuals and in this discussion area with no luck. We created a temporary copy of our AREV 3.12 applications on a different server on the same NT network so that we can do some Y2K testing with all of the latest programs and data without effecting the live applications. The thing we haven't figured out yet is how to attach tables across servers so we can move any updated programs from the test server back into the live applications. Can anyone point us in the right direction?

I've tried SETFILE, ATTACHTALBE, SETVOLUME and different combinations to no avail. I've given these commands the full pathing to the temporary applications and still no go. Do I have to create some sort of pointer at the SYSPROG level in one or both of the AREV systems?

I would perfer not to use any sort of DOSCOPY of REV files. Nor do I want to copy the changed programs to a DOS file and then copy them into their target AREV table. AS I said I would perfer not to do this but if that is what I have to do then I'll do it. I'm just hopeing for a much simpler method.

Thank you for your time.

The main problem is you can't attach or setfile to volumes with the same media label. You have to relabel the volumes in your test/clone version with the NAMEMEDIA command. However, if you have indexing on any of the files NAMEMEDIA will not allow you to change the label.

You could always edit the REVMEDIA% record in the REVMEDIA file. I'm not sure what ramifications this has on indexing though. Are you certain the Y2K test environment is not currently attaching the live volumes? Can you disconnect all volumes to the live server and still enter a fully functioning Y2K copy? Anyway once you change the media volume labels you can map the target server drives and do setfile/setalias to the appropriate files and copy to and from. You may have to disable the NT/NLM services unless you have two licenses for each server and even then I'm not sure about how it works when attaching to two or more servers. </QUOTE> ---- === At 05 NOV 1999 03:30PM Victor Engel wrote: === <QUOTE>"You could always edit the REVMEDIA% record in the REVMEDIA file. You must also change all references in the !filename record for the !filename file(s) and delete the ! records. Then reattach the files so that the ! record can be rebuilt. We do this programmatically on a daily basis in order to capture snapshots of the database for different days: copy DOS files to snapshot directory, then change volume label so the snapshot directory is attachable.
