What type of commands are AREV TCL commands. Are they similer to SQL queries?

The question is not really suitable for the forum. This is a whole course in itself. It is thoroughly covered in the user documentation provided with each version of Advanced Revelation, though.

No, if you WANT to do SQL queries type SQL followed by the SQL query. TCL is "Terminal Control Language" and is a complete operating system like environment, command driven. You can pretty much do everything from here, as Don says - check the docs.

Well kinda. Some commands are similar, and some are not. What I suggest is to experiment. Actually having the manuals like Don said would be the best way.

My experience is that the "TCL" commands seem to be different with all languages. "Universe" seems to be very similar to "Arev" too.

I really like using the "TCL" commands. And I think that there should be alot more enhancements to that side of the product. "Universe" has a very good "TCL" command language. "Arev" does has its ummmmm limitations on "TCL". Multivalue data handling could be a bit more enhanced.

Dictionary handling in "Arev" is restricted due to multivalued associations. that is all.

Trust me, I am not knocking "Arev", its a way good product. Just thought this was a good time to be able to comment on my "wish list".

I have been support a financial product on arev for the last 6 months or so. The only documentation I have is a guy here whos been programming with arev for 10 years. I was told TCL stood for "the command line"

'The command line' is an alternative newer explanation. Revelation is based on the PICK operating system which used terminals, hence terminal control language

What sort of help would you like? Try pressing F1 or Shift-F2 whilst at TCL - that'll give you a good starting point without the documentation.

That's pretty funny. I'm surprised I haven't heard that one before. Incidentally, you can get a list of TCL commands by pressing Shift-F2. In REVG you could type HELP command to get information on the command, but that doesn't work in Arev.

Ryan;

For an investment of between $200.00 and $100.00 you can purchase from Revelation the documentation for your version from G2B to Arev 3.12. Call 800-262-4747 or email info@revelation.com.

Hope this helps,

Is that the same as TCL/TK or is that a differnt language? I have found the shift F2 help before which has gotten me far enough.
