Okay, in Netware 3.x you were able to create a global printcon.dat which allowed you to put all the job names usable in the capture command in one place rather than having to define it or copy it to each user.

The procedure was like this:

- Login as supervisor, defined jobs with printcon

- move the printcon.dat file from \mail\1 to \public and flag as SRO

- using SMODE change mode to 5 for CAPTURE.EXE, PRINTCON.EXE, NPRINT.EXE

- delete printcon.dat from all the users \mail directories

- for the DOS 32bit client make sure that READ ONLY COMPATIBILITY=ON is in the appropriate section of net.cfg

Try as I might, I can't get this to work with the Window Client32 v3.3. Anybody have any luck with this?

Which version of Netware on the server?

And is the Bindery mode enabled on the client?

Unfortunately, that went away with Netware 4.x and the 32-bit client for Win95, if I remember correctly. You're right .. it was very handy.

Netware 3.x (3.12 patched for Y2K stuff). Bindery is enabled with the client.

I was trying to get this to work under Netware 6.0 using the v3.x printcon.exe and capture.exe (the v6.0 capture.exe is around 360KB) but I couldn't get it to work under 3.x either.

Fortunately v6.0 still supports queue based printers and the jobs are global using the v6.0 capture.exe. I just had to go into the ARev programs and VOC TCL entries and change all the calls to capture and associated bat files to SUSPEND or PC SUSPEND calls.

I think I saw in Novell KB that it still works in v4.12 except they renamed printcon.dat to printjob.dat.
