Is anyone running AREV 3.12 on a Linux Server, with SAMBA, or any other arrangement?

We had a former employee who got Arev running on Linux (Redhat version unknown) using DOSEmu (again version unknown). We where attempting to keep the server side Novell Netware v5 with the LH-NLM 1.5 (IPX) and run Arev on a Linux client pc.

During subsequent 'tweaking' to fix the big problem of no record locking, the network connectivity got broken. That employee was in the process rebuilding the Linux client/DOSEmu from a total wipe and re-install, when they departed employement.

Anyway, the time had come to then either get this working immediately and use the Linux client or upgrade about 40 or 50 pc's to WIN2K. So we had to install Win2K.

Now we have have dropped this project and with the employee no longer here, I don't know if we'll pick it up again.

For what it is worth DOSEmu seemed pretty much the way to go. IPX configuration was where all the action was as I recall.

Good luck! If you can get it working, please post your results and findings.

Dick,

Maybe your question is about using Windows clients by putting the AREV.exe, revboot database on the Linux box with Samba.

That works real nice but there is still the advisory to use some sort of service with the LH files. In my case because I had an NT Service I went back to a windows machine for the file server. But I ran for nearly a year without a service on Linux (SuSE 8.0 with Samba) before I got my first GFE and I had a power failure.

Hi,

It would really be nice to see and use a configuration like this. I can only dream. The task is of course figuring out how to get record locking to work and hope you *never* encounter a GFE. I don't have any results to post, but hope to soon.
