I am using a popup to display a catalog for multiple selections in a Novell 5, TCPIP, 100MB ethernet, OI 3.7 runtime environment. The popup is usually called upon to display about 800 to 1000 records. The popup will populate and the user begins to scroll down using the slide bar. The reaches the bottom and you are still only in the D's in the alphabet and then the slider bounces up the bar and allows more sliding. This goes on for 5 to 10 minutes until all the records are in place.

Is there a way to speed this up. I tried creating a new file with a larger frame size 9210 but this did not seem to help.

5 to 10 minutes? For 1000 records? You have a problem. Does this happen on all popups or just on this table?

Have you got a complex symbolic in your popup columns that would cause such a delay?

First: Only TCP/IP? No IPX? The supported configuration is with IPX and the LH/NLM.

Second: Anything funny about what you are displaying? Symbolics? Lots of columns with extensive formatting (OCONVs)?

Third: Any noticeable slowness on a report that uses the same data? Or is it just popup?

Fourth: In your dev system, do you see similar problems?

I just moved this application to Novell 5 environment 6 weeks ago. All other functions work well. Reports work fine. I had two files that were not increasing in size automatically one of which was the catalog file. I fixed this but still have problem. I did not know IPX was required.

Nothing funny is being displayed except one of the fields sometimes gets a carriage return in it.

My development system does not show this. It is not on the network.

This is a small company, just starting up and they don't want to afford the NLM just yet. I have told them they need it.

If I run IPX, do you think that will help, even though I do not have the NLM?

Thanks and sorry to so long responding.

Steve,

Well, they need the NLM and with it they need to use IPX. In lieu of that, they should use the NPP and turn "write behind caching" off in Windows, but they can still get GFE's unless using the NLM.

I will pass this along and make the adjustment to IPX. What is the proper network driver with IPX and the NLM?

Steve,

When you install the NLM client, there will be a driver called LH/IPX (something like that … it has "IPX" in the name).
