Some of us remember the undocumented facility for "dependent" indexing, which still seems to work in OI. Ref: "Indexing on Xlates" in Revmedia.

As I've found out the hard way, the Rename_Volume routine doesn't alter the index controls for dependent indexing. However, the fix is easy :-

In the !Filename !Filename record each file linked with dependent indexing has additional values (not fields) after the value for index info in Filename. These start exactly the same way except the filename is different. Hence in Rename_Volume go to the internal Change.Index_File subroutine and, after Index.defn is read, count the values in it and loop the processing before the write, altering the instructions accordingly to process each value found.

If you look at the !filename !filename record and the Rename_Volume source code it's a lot more obvious than my description!

Hope this helps

Richard,

Just a note of thanks to tell you this post did not go into a black hole, and a printout is now sitting in my little bag of tricks.

Thanks for the appreciation!

Ask if you want the exact coding - but as noted it's very simple to work out for oneself.

In any event in due course I'll probably put it on my web area with other bits and pieces (such as how to get double click on a popup date column to sort the dates correctly). Address www.tornadopropsys.co.uk/toolkit

I would like that one!

Have a look at aforementioned web site area (www.tornadopropsys.co.uk/toolkit). I've put a few other things there you might find interesting - not least info on our very own T-List - which is very different indeed from R/List and S/List. Depends what you want to do!

If any problems or queries just email me: rg@tornadopropsys.co.uk
