We have a client who is considering setting ap Arev under the following configuration.

Two seperate servers each running Arev and application.

The data for each application on a different server but with some tables in a common database.

Each server will be running NT Service.

Has anyone tried this? If so does the locking of the common table work? Any pitfalls with this configuration?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That configuration should work.

As long as the serial #'s of each copy of AREV are unique you should be ok. You may run into a problem if the directory structures for the two servers are identical for the data files. This used to be a problem with Novell Netware since the lock token included the canonical pathname. NT essentially uses byte-range locking on the file-handle so you're probably ok.
