We've been using %SK% in our AREV apps for many years even though we have read about problems with multi-user environments allowing two (or more) users the ability to use the same ID at the same time.

Until just recently we never had a problem reported. So I dug up my old notes on this issue from this forum and CompuServe to see what the actual problem is.

Unfortunately, it seems that there is some confusion on the issue. In some postings it appears that the problem is not resolvable other than replacing it with your own custom counter. Other postings suggest that if you get AREV to launch the main menu at level 2 then the problem won't occur. Can anyone give me the final word on this issue?

I can understand how two windows would allow the same default key to appear…but why would they be able to access the same record? Does this problem cause the lock on the actual data record to be lost? If so, then it would seem that locks in areas other than sequential key counters could be affected as well.

Finally, is this a non-issue with OI? We are using SEQKEY quite a bit and I imagine the underlying logic is the same.
