There are three new important documents in the News & Info section. The Letter from the President is an open letter to our partners about Revelation and where we are going. The OpenInsight Roadmap: jRev - Evolution to Java is the 32-bit plan introduces the next generation of Revelation tools, code-named jRev.

Just a quick note that this message blows away the formatting of the "Flat by Date" listing. This appears to be becuase the category listing uses up the rest of the page, so the subject column does not appear unless you scroll to the right.

I have read all the propaganda about jRev in these articles. It all sounds good. BUT, it seems to still be one-sided. It seems that with jRev, Revelation Software still takes the approach that Linear Hash files are to be directly access only by Revelation Software front-ends. The new exception is that jRev can make that LH data available to browsers.

I have needed for years, and still need, access to LH data in a generic way. I can get to xBase date, Access data, SQL data, Notes data, BUT NOT Linear Hash data via common drivers. I don't need to run a CGI script. I just need something as simple as an ODBC driver into LH data. I don't want to access Notes data via a Revelation Software front end; I want to access LH data via a Lotus Notes front end.

Am I missing something. Or, is this need still not being met?

Soon I'll have to give in to Revelations philosophy and migrate all my processes out of Revelation products so I can get at my data with something besides their tools or a browser. It doesn't have to be that way!

If I missed something and Revelation really has a solution that they haven't yet been able to point me to, please correct me.

You can have access, just not ODBC access. Brian Feddish has posted a few messages about his company's products which simply access to LH files through OpenEngine. OpenEngine docs are available on-line and it's reatively simple to use the engine to access LH data from anywhere. All you need is the ability to call DLLs.

Aaron,

Isn't the concept of using DLLs to get to the data back

to the 'just add a little code to do what you need?

Bryan does have a solutions and I hope we will be trying it
