A client is in the process of upgrading from Netware 3.x to 6.x. They are essentially building a new server and will run the two parallel until all ARev issues are taken care of.

We will be trading up the existing v1.5 NLM to the version for Netware 6.x (v5.5?).

Will it be possible to run both servers, one with the v1.5 and one with the trade-up version or will there be a serial number conflict? The servers will not be sharing disk resources, just on the same network and maybe sharing some of the printer queues.

You may run into problems with AREV serial #'s, etc. If the "new" server is just a copy of the old, you may run into the issue of media-map conflicts in Indexes since the path address is stored in the !file. Also, since the serial #'s will be the same .. well, you get the idea. Years ago, I tried this on a Netware 3.x server migrating to Netware 5 and there were many headaches (frame-type conflicts, etc.). I'm sure that Joe D. at RTI and others will have other observations as well.
