Is there a way to select or change the default

REV prefix numbers for DOS filenames when

creating a new application in AREV 3.12???

For example, I would like to create an application

with the revmedia using REV25XXX.LK and REV25XXX.OV.

SETALIAS LOCATION SYSPROG REVMEDIA R

EDIT R REVMEDIA

change the number and save.

I seem to recall that there may be some problems with BTree indexing on files renumbered (or allocated real names, eg. empmast.lk empmast.ov etc…) Prepared to be wrong on this of course…

You could always just think in different number bases…

Interesting. I've thought of doing this before. Can you think of any reason why your idea could be correct?

This dates from 1990, (AREV 1.15) so my memory is vague!

AREV keeps the "next number to be used" in the revmedia map, and may do a check on revmedia entries ahead of incrementing this number. If the next number in the revmedia is revxxx79, and you've already used this, what happens? If one entry is non-numeric, what happens? I'm

not conversant enough with non-numeric *.LK's and *.OV's prefixes to

say. If you use some sort of native name (ie. AREV handle-] dos filename) routine then it might break if it looks for the numeric

portion of the DOS filename. What about locking?? It would

be interesting to try it.

Was probably a bug in the version. I've done checking on setting to existing numbers and wrapping at REVx9999 and while there was the potential for a problem with REV10000, it all handled pretty well.

I've done things in the media map setting a file to C:\TEMP\REVxxxx and it handles fine.

If you do this from outside of SYSPROG and SYSPROG has a password you need to include the password too:

SETALIAS LOCATION SYSPROG,password REVMEDIA R
