Linear Hash NT Service and machines 'Hanging' (AREV Specific)

Hi
We recently installed the Linear Hash NT service on our system, and since then we have been having problems with machines hanging in AREV. We have also had problems with FILECOPY being extremely slow. We understand this can be fixed by putting a REVPARAM file with Sever only=1 in it in the directory but the manager doesn't want to make any more changes. I wondered if the server only option may also make a difference for the hanging problem.
Also can someone give me a little more info on the REVPARAM file does it need to be in all directories or just the root AREV directory. What does it actually do (Server only seems like it should be the default to me?).
With the Linear hash service we noted that it has put REVLOCK files in a lot of the arev directories but not all. How does it know which are arev directories? Filecopies from directories without REVLOCK seem to be at a reasonable speed - is this because linear hash doesn't know about them?
Hope someone can help
Thanks, Brenda

You MUST have the ServerOnly=1 line in your RevParam file to ensure that all users are actually using the NT Service. Otherwise it is possible that users could be accessing your data without using the NT Service at all - likely to cause big problems and data corruption.
If you can be 100% sure that all users load the same copy of AREV.EXE from the NT Server shared drive than you will get away with Revparam file in directory that contains AREV.EXE (i.e. REVBOOT). If however, there is a chance that other users have there own Arev systems and could attach to data on the server then make sure that there is a REVPARAM file in every directory that contains Linear Hash datafiles i.e. directories with revmedia.lk.
At AREV TCL type WHO and ensure you are using the All Networks 1.5 driver as this is the preferred client driver to run with the NT Service. Lastly forget what your manager says, if its not working then you have to make changes !

Brenda,
Also, check to make sure that, in your Display Settings-]Misc., allow screensaver and always suspend are unchecked. This has been known to cause "hanging" problems.
