NT 4.0 Server Win95 Client Protocol....SLOW (AREV Specific)

My customer has an NT4.0 SP3 server running a 100bt network and Win95 clients. There are 5 identical clients, three are running fast and two are running slow. To the best of our knowledge they are all running the same protocols and the hardware is configured the same.
Questions: What protocol should the NT Server be running for the AREV? I have seen comments regarding running IPX, Client 32 for novell?
What protocol should the Win95 clients be running? What services?
I have loaded the "All Network Drivers", does this need to be done from each machine?
I have loaded the Adv. Rev. NT Pak⦠the Linear Hash and it is running properly.
The hardware: Intel AL440LX main boards, 3Com 3c905TX net cards running on IRQ 9, or 11, no performance difference between irqs.

Netbui or TCP/IP are your best bets for the server. The default protocol on the workstations should have the highest binding on the server.
You don't need anything from Novell since that's only usefull if you have Netware.

I have a client that has been experiancing the same problem. We have multipal w95 and dos clients. The Dos clients always work however we experiance intermitent problems with the w95 machines. I've found that if I switch the clients from 802.2 to 802.3 or vise versa the problem goes away for a while but returns the next time the workstation is started or later.
Having the w95 stations frame type type set to auto almost always causes them to go slow under arev.. Sometimes rebooting the client several times will make arev run at a normal speed without changing frame type. All other network operations seem to go at a normal speed even when arev is crawling at about 1/50th normal speed. If anyone can help with this I would appreciate it.

I replied to a problem wihich shared some features with yours. If your server seems unresponsive at the same time you might like to try it. I didnt hear whether the other people did as someone else suggested it was a raid problem. Please let me know if you do. my email address is [email protected]. If you go into control panel - net work - services - server and set the option to balance (if you have it set to maximise throughput for file sharing) and reboot you might find it better.
