Backing up AREV files (AREV Specific)

Our backup (Veritas - Backup Exec) is skipping many AREV files due to REVLOCK. We have 35 employees and everyone logs out of AREV when they go home for the evening. What would be causing the AREV files to remain open or to have the REVLOCK in effect? We also have a dedicated indexing machine, however, the indexing program is stopped each evening before backups.

Daniel,
Under normal conditions if everybody was logged out of AREV (including the index server) then you shouldn't have any problems. If REVLOCKS is still locked up then that should be the only file that won't backup…which I wouldn't worry about because it gets recreated by AREV automatically. However, you seem to emply that data files are getting locked up. This means: 1.) not everybody has logged out of AREV or 2.) the file server where AREV resides is keeping some of these files open for some reasons. We see this occasionally and either need to reboot the server or restart the Linear Hash Service.

Do you get the same errors if you stop the service before backing up?

You may wish to try out Open File Manager to resolve this problem (http://www.stbernard.com).
