Here we go again. My client is replacing Win95 WS with Win NT 4.0 WS the server is Win NT 4.0 with the NT Service and NPP 1.5, ARev v2.03.

They experience extremely slow login/startups (10+ minutes if the connection doesn't time out). Fiddled around with the pifs and most of the suggested settings from various postings on this board.

Any suggestions as to pin pointing the problem (much less solving it)?

Server is remote in another building complex connected via T1 line.

Maybe Steve Smith's speedup utility can help you out. Just a thought.

Forgot to add - an imbalance of 10mbit and 100mbit network cards on a LAN segment (ie a non intelligent hub) can cause slow loads.

- tried this no change even with slider all the way to 100%

© ensure the local RAM is adequate and they are not accessing AREV via Outlook but by Windows desktop

- 128MB per WS, PIF setup by me

(d) ensure NTFS is used on C:

- Does it really matter, though not up to me (their IT/IS)

(e) ensure that paging file is sized OK

- Recommended WinNT defaults

(f) install service pack 4,5 or 6

- SP 5

(g) reduce the number of protocols loaded (TCP/IP and mayne NWLINK/IPX are adequate)

- Bare minimum as is, will check if Netware protocols have been removed

(h) if you're really in need (get out of gaol / impending termination) I will forward a copy of CPU-PLUS

- Let me run performance monitoring on stations before committing to this, ARev app supposed to phased out by 3rd Quarter.

Note on 10/100Mbs cards - will look into this though I think they are using Cisco and/or 3Com.

Thanks
