We are running an AREV (2.12)appication across a network using Novel 3.12 and Win 95 on the workstations. We have the NLM 1.1 loaded but are still experiencing the program freezing up when left to run in the background while changing to use different applications. Sometimes it even hangs up while trying to exit the application entirely. We actually have two AREV applications, one of which we have licensed and sold to other users running under the same network with Win 95 but without the NLMs and they are having no problems. I can only deduce therefore that it has something to do with the NLMs. Any ideas?

This sounds like the TSR is not being loaded correctly or that it, for some reason, is not being allowed to issue its keep-alive packets.

First thing to check on is that the TSR is being loaded with the /P switch in the session. If this is not done the the TSR will fail when the app is suspended to the background.

Next check the properties of the short-cut and insure that, under the Miscelaneous (Misc) tab, that the Background -] Always Suspend checkbox is not checked and that the Idle Sensitivity is set to the middle (this is a slide bar).

You should also check your environment on Advanced Power Management and insure that these settings are not enabled. i.e if the machine powers off then no TSR can communicate with the NLM.

I hope this helps.
