Problem - Have a table that has a 2 part key. When user enters a new item or updates an existing item and then clicks on the Save F9 button that I created, the information is saved. However, if they use the F9 key, the data is not saved. If they use File/save the data is not saved. This only happens on 2 part keyed files - probably happens if there are more than 1 key also - don't know, don't have any.

If the table is a 1 part key, the F9, File/Save and clicking the Save F9 button all save the record.

Any ideas what I can do so the F9 and File/Save will save the data with multiple part keys?

Thanks

Andy

Andy,

This should work. I have forms with two-part keys. Using either F9 or clicking on a button will save the record.

Have you check the menu item to make sure that the F9 key is associated with the Save Action.

We've used two-part keys through all versions OI to 3.7.5 and F9 has worked without any problems at all.

Similarly, I haven't had a problem with 2 part keys. I would check in the menu item for the save that you have checked the "Generate LostFocus Event" Check Box. The lostfocus event updates the SAVEWARN property which would make sure the record is actually written away. You could try changing a field, tabbing off it (thus generating the lostfocus) and see if the change gets written away.

Well chalk one up for whatever, but, I have found the solution.

It wasn't a two part key problem. Based on the information the user gave me, it was a two part key. When I checked another form that worked with the F9 key, which happened to be a one part key, I assumed it was a 2 part key problem. That was not the case.

I had put a script on the Click event of the Save F9 button and not on the Write script of the form. I switched the script from the button to the Write it works with no problem.

Thanks for all your input.

I think the odds of any of us getting it all right the first time are 1 in 1,234,567,890 chances .

Or 1*(10^23) in 1,234,567,890 chances? That's too optimistic. Way past what's possible, actually.
