I am investigating the feasibility of using Oracle 8 as the primary database for a 500 user OpenInsight financial application. Do you have any guidance? Do you know of any relevant references? Thank you.

It is technically feasible, although Oracle data is usually normalized very very differently from OI's data structures, and this may be an issue in terms of implementation. So you're bolting a "3D" front end onto a "2D" database.

We have had success with similar hybrid OI/SQL implementations, the most recent Oracle one being only a couple of weeks ago.

We've done lots of work with OI/AREV to both MS SQL Server and Sybase servers. Most of the same rules apply with any of the normalised backends such as Oracle. Connectivity is another issue! Email me for more details.

Tony-

Haven't Prosolve been actively moving Revelation clients to these other platforms? On your website you seem to actively recruit this behaviour ( http://www.prosolve.co.uk/Dotnet.htm ), so your posting seems a bit disengenuous.

I don't know who you are but you seem somewhat misinformed of both our current plans and what a backend database is?

Using SQL Server/Oracle etc has nothing to do with the choice of front end development tools. Hence my statement that we have succesfully used both Arev and OI front end applications to talk to SQL Server back end database systems. We have used Revelation products since our company formation in 1984, we are the longest standing Revelation specialists in the UK.
