Which One? (OpenInsight 16-Bit Specific)

Hi,
I am a Manufacturing Consultant and have been offering manufacturing engineering services for quite awhile.
I currently have OI v2.61. All the programming I've done up to now has been for my use. I am now considering offering my clients some programming services along with my other services. I know that I will need to upgrade, but to which version (16 bit or 32 bit)? What else will I need if I am to go ahead with my plans? I use reporter with my current version.
Thanks for any help.
Marty

Hi Marty,
Good to see you posting again.
Well, I believe the general consensus will be to use the 32-bit version unless you absolutely can't run it on the hardware you need to install it on. For instance, OI32 will not run on anything less than Win98SE. So if you need to deploy to Win95 or Win98 (or, heaven forbid, Win3.x!) then you have no choice but to deploy with OI16. However, it seems highly unlikely to me that you would be faced with this limitation so I recommend going straight for OI32…especially v4.1 when it gets released in or after August. Awesome stuff coming down the pike!

OI32 .. there really isn't any reason to stick with OI16 unless you like more headaches and limitations
Plus with the new things coming down the pipe for OI32 (the show in august should be a gas) we are where we should have been a couple of years ago. Great job Mike, Pat, Bob (Sean and all the others).
If I were you I would wean from Reporter towards OIPI for your reporting needs. Although more complex than reporter it does give the control AND i have always had some 'issues' with reporter and its stability.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the thoughts.
Along the same lines, I am also thinking of a "canned" program that I could possibly sell. What would I need in terms of deployment or is all that included in OI32? Does OIPI come with (I have an early version that I had to install)? Anything else that I should know?
Thanks again,
Marty

OIPI comes with OI32, if you wish to deploy Reporter in "Design" mode you'll need a special RDSDP as well. Failing that it's just the usual bump disk pricing.

I haven't followed all of this as I have had no need to til now. What is the usual bump disc pricing?

Marty,
Here is a link to our pricing page. It can be accessed from the Company Store link.
For Development bumps you want to look at DRSDPs and for runtime bumps the SDPs.

Hi Marty,
I noticed that you're in engineering. Do you work with AutoCAD? I've been involved in interfacing OpenOinsight with AutoCAD for some time.
