Setting the DEVICE=COMMDRV.IBM 1024,1 in the CONFIG.SYS does not appear to work with Windows XP. Does anybody have a solution for communications in AREV running Windows XP?

I tried downloading a DRVLOAD from the internet. Seems it is hard to find. A lot of the links don't go anywhere or to unrelated web pages. Does anybody have a DRVLOAD that they are using that will work will Windows XP that they could email to me?

Thanks, I got the download. Here's the results:

I tried the DRVLOAD, and AREV 2.1 running under Windows XP is still giving me an error.

Here is my autoexec.bat file:

subst r: c:\den_se~1\database

c:\drvloadxp\drvload g:\svirl\commdrv.ibm 1024,1

c:\drvloadxp\drvload g:\svirl\comm2drv.ibm 1024,2

When manually executing the bat file, the screen displays that the driver was sucessfully installed.

Then I go into AREV and execute the V124 statement (which worked in Windows 95 and 98 even without the DRVLOAD)

V124('OP', HANDLE1, COM1DRV, '',FLAG)

The FLAG comes back with a value of 2, which is an Error that means (as I understand it) the comm driver was not installed.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thank you!

From within your ARev session, try doing a SUSPEND. Then, execute the MEM /C command to see what is loaded in memory and make sure that COMMDRV.IBM is loaded.

It's possible you might need to launch ARev from a batch file and have COMMDRV.IBM loaded right before you launch ARev so that it is available from that command session.

Don't use subst. You're overcomplicating the problem. Matt's advice is good.

Launching it from a batch file seems to have done the trick. Thank you everyone very much for your time and suggestions!

This momentary lapse into insanity brought to you by the whooshing sound that deadlines make as they go flying by.

Seriously though, it's a bit of a pick-me-up when I consider the huge wealth of expertise on this board.
