Arev loads then unloads (AREV Specific)

While working with Explorer while AREV was open arev crashed. I rebooted my system and now when I load arev the logon message is displayed and Arev immediately exits. This occurs if I logon to the application or arev.exe or arev.exe sysprog.
Any suggestions to help me track down the problem would be very much appreciated.

Are you receiving any error messages? The connection table on the server could be full, if you are using the NLM, the service could be stopped on the server, or several other things.
Can you give us any more information? What version of Arev, what desktop, what network OS on the server, what network client, etc.

I am using Windows 95 - no network or LMN. I receive no error messages.
When I logon using Arev.exe or Arev.exe sysprog or arev.exe supervisor survey.it (the application logon) the Logon screen is displayed and then the system exits immediately to windows.
Thanks.

Matt-
Go down to DOS and run AREV.EXE form the subdirectory. You should be able to see some error messages then.
Hope it helps-

I ran AREV.exe directly from dos and the Logon screen was displayed correctly followed immediately by a blank black screen. No error messages were displayed. Pressing ctl_alt_del and ending the DOS task returned the system to normal.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

If you were in Explorer, the first place to look is in the Windows 95 Trash for any deleted AREV_related files. If you're running local, another option is to put a PAUSE statement as the last line of AUTOEXEC.BAT, reboot, then hit Ctrl-C at the PAUSE and opt to terminate the batch process. A count of the dots on the login screen (as they appear) would be helpful - this will indicate at what stage the startup is failing.
The meaning of each dot is documented here on this website.
Run AREV.EXE without any command line parameters. Also look at the DIR /ON /P to check that all files have an OV and LK component (and that one of these hasn't been deleted). Check the AREV.EXE file is correct size (about 85,000-95,000 bytes). A corruption to your SYSOBJ file may have occurred, in which case the initialization sequence is collapsing.

I've seen this happen under the following circumstances:
1. REVBOOT is corrupted.
2. The system HELP file has a GFE or is missing the OV portion.
3. REV00000.LK / OV has GFE or is missing the OV portion
You should have seen all the dots on the spash screen and then as it's trying to initialize the system it will hang. Usually you can't even reboot on an MS-DOS machine although you can sometimes use End Task in windows.

In desperation I copied a backup program directory to the corrupted system and all is well. However, the ideas given are being followed to track down the problem.
Once agin thank you for your very quick response to a 'dead in the water' problem.
